• Fungus Control

  • More Than Mushrooms

If your once pristine lawn has developed yellow or brown spots, thin patches, or slimy areas, it may be suffering from a lawn disease. Lawn fungus is the most common and one of the most damaging lawn diseases. Fungal diseases can affect all types of vegetation. Because lawn fungus can be difficult to diagnose and eliminate, it’s a good idea to consult a trained lawn expert like Riedel's Garden Center before attempting to treat it with fungus control treatments.

Lawn fungal diseases favor warm, humid weather and can be spread quickly by wind, water, contaminated lawn mower wheels, and even on shoes. Insect and pest damage, air pollution, and nutrient deficiencies all make lawns more susceptible to fungal diseases.

Sign to look for that may indicate that your lawn is suffering from a fungal disease include:

    • Discolored and frayed blades of grass
    • White, yellow, or brown patches that appear to grow in diameter
    • Discolored spots or lesions on leaves, stems, or blades
    • Grass patches that appear wet or slimy
    • Powdery or chalky film on grass blades
    • Stunted growth

If you notice any of these symptoms, give Riedel's Garden Center a call for an accurate diagnosis from one of our lawn care specialists. Different fungal spores require different treatments. We will customize a fungus control treatment specifically targeted to treat the fungal disease plaguing your lawn. Often several fungus control treatments are needed to eliminate fungal diseases.

The best way to prevent fungal diseases is to keep your lawn healthy with good lawn maintenance, including proper fertilization, mowing, and watering. Overwatering will increase the likelihood of a fungal disease taking root. One inch of water per week is a good average amount. Water in the morning so your grass has more time to dry, reducing the opportunity for fungus to grow. Mow your lawn frequently but keep it cut long. You should also aerate your lawn every one to two years.

In addition to lawn fungus control services, Riedel's Garden Center in Hays, Kansas offers a full range of lawn maintenance services to help keep your lawn healthy and better prepared to fight off lawn diseases.
